Women's History Month

To all the women out there!

In this Women’s history month let’s talk about women’s health while we celebrate all the women in our life.

Please trust me when I say what you see on the surface is not what is actually happening inside our body. Health is so much more than what you see in reel life. The fact is six packs, flat stomachs, a pair of toned legs or lean hands do not mean someone is 100% fit or healthy. Your health definition includes your mental health, your sleep adequacy, stress levels, food habits, menstrual cycle, oral care, etc.

It is important to recognise that women's health is very much essential to day-to-day life. I will try to give you some reasons here.

#1 Physical Health: Women's bodies go through many changes throughout their lives, including menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. These changes can have a significant impact on physical health, including energy levels, mood, and overall well-being. It is important for all of us to prioritise our physical health in order to stay healthy and active.

Regular physical activities and exercises are important in women's lives for several reasons:

a. Maintaining overall physical health: Regular physical activity can help women maintain a healthy weight, improve cardiovascular health, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and certain types of cancer.

b. Reducing stress and anxiety: Any form of physical activity is also known to be a natural stress reliever and can help women manage anxiety and depression. Physical activity releases endorphins, which are chemicals in the brain that can improve mood and reduce stress.

c. Improving bone density: Women are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis than men. Regular exercise can help to build and maintain bone density, which is important for reducing the risk of fractures and maintaining overall bone health.

d. Improving sleep: Engagement of any physical activity has been shown to improve the quality of sleep, which is important for overall health and well-being.

e. Boosting energy levels: Any kind of exercise can also help to boost energy levels and improve overall physical stamina. This can be especially important for women who have busy schedules or who need to manage a lot of responsibilities throughout the day.

#2 Mental Health: Women are more likely than men to experience mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. These conditions can have a major impact on day-to-day life, affecting mood, energy levels, and ability to carry out daily tasks. It is important for women to prioritise their mental health by seeking support when needed and engaging in self-care practices.

Mental health is very important in women's lives for several reasons:

a. Improved productivity: Women who are mentally healthy are more productive and efficient in their day-to-day lives, whether at work or at home. They are better able to focus, concentrate, and handle stress effectively.

b. Physical health: Mental health has a significant impact on physical health. Women who experience chronic stress or anxiety may experience physical symptoms like headaches, muscle tension, and fatigue. Good mental health can help to reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

c. Self-care: Women who prioritize their mental health are better able to engage in self-care practices, such as exercise, healthy eating, and adequate sleep. These practices can help to reduce stress and improve overall well-being.

d. Relationships: Women often play multiple roles in their families and communities. Their mental health affects their ability to maintain healthy relationships with their partners, children, and other family members, as well as friends and coworkers.

e. Work performance: Women's mental health also impacts their work performance. If they are struggling with mental health issues such as depression or anxiety, they may find it difficult to focus, be productive, and meet deadlines.

It's very important for women to come forward, prioritise their mental health and seek help if they need it.

#3 Reproductive Health: Women's reproductive health is an essential part of overall health. Issues such as menstrual irregularities, infertility, and sexually transmitted infections can all impact daily life. It is important for women to prioritise reproductive health by seeking regular check-ups, using contraception if needed, and practicing safe sex.

#4 Long-Term Health: By taking care of their physical and mental health now, women can reduce their risk of developing chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer later in life.

Now, women juggle multiple responsibilities, such as caring for children, managing a home, and holding down a job. With so much on their plates, it can be easy for women to neglect their own needs. However, taking time for yourself is essential for your physical, mental, and emotional health.

Last but not the least.. appreciate the body you have and work with it and never against it!
